Background Screening Requirements

The Boy Scouts of America requires all Cub Scout leaders to complete an adult application, which authorizes a criminal background check of public records sources. In addition, our chartered organization, Trinity Catholic School, and the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee require all school volunteers, including Cub Scout leaders, to be fingerprinted and undergo state and national criminal history records checks through the state’s Volunteer & Employee Criminal History System (VECHS).**

In addition to the Youth Protection Training required by the Boy Scouts of America, Trinity Catholic School also requires school volunteers, including Cub Scout leaders, to complete two diocese-mandated online training tutorials through Shield the Vulnerable. Cub Scout leaders must complete training on:

  • Detecting Predators; and
  • Recognizing, Reporting & Preventing Child Abuse.

**Before being fingerprinted, a volunteer background screening fee must be paid at the front office of Trinity Catholic School. For information on the current fee rate, please contact the school’s office manager, Susan Gallivan or call (850) 222-0444.
